Rick Clarke is a San Diego based visual artist that works primarily with ink, watercolor, and other water-based mediums. Influenced by fine art and illustrative styles from Surrealism to comic book art, his interests focus on what can tell a story and he strives to capture intriguing visual stories that invoke the spirit of play in his art.
Originally from Maine, he attended the Portland School of Art (Now the Maine College of Art) from 1986 to 1990 for Graphic Design. He has lived in San Diego since 2005 and is currently active in the local art community attending various sketching and painting group events and workshops. He has also been using various figure drawing sessions in Southern California over the last couple of years as structured practice to experiment with expressive lines and color.
Rick hosts a weekly sketch group and can often be found sketching at the San Diego Zoo or local coffee shops.
